Math Requirement in LSA?

I hate, hate, hate math. It’s the most difficult subject for me. I’m taking AP Calc AB this year and plan to study my butt off to get a 5 on the test and some type of credit at UM. What more math do I need to take at UM? I plan on majoring in evolutionary anthropology, minoring in biological anthropology. I don’t think these are very mathy programs, but does anyone have any idea about what math is required?

Thanks!!

Math requirement depends on major. You should look it up for your intended major directly.

My daughter is like you. She spent a lot of time looking into this (and it wasn’t easy due to all the different LSA requirements). But it looks like unless your major specifically requires additional math (and bio may not) you can avoid math in LSA. The quantitative requirement can be met in other ways. You may need to take stats though.

Michigan has a weird way of considering AP credit for Calc I. They don’t give full equivalent credit for Calc I even if you get a 5. The only benefit is that a 5 would allow you to place into Calc II. My daughter is not going to take the Calc AB exam because of this. She doesn’t want to study for it and the credit won’t do anything for her (she is a humanities major).

@blprof That’s the case in LSA. CoE grants full credits to AP Calc.

@pencilpen7 Well first of all, I don’t believe you can’t major in Evolutionary Anthropology and minor in Biological Anthropology (Anthropology Department doesn’t allow you to minor in Biological Anthropology if your major is also from the Anthropology Department)

But for both, math is not a large portion (outside of basic algebra).

@pencilpen7 I meant “I don’t believe you can major” not “I don’t believe you can’t major”
