Math Requirements

I was told by a fellow student, who also wishes to go to UVA, that you have to have taken 4 years of math in high school to get in. I've looked all over the UVA website and I'm not seeing anything about this. I have completed all of the math requirements up to Pre-Calculus but decided against taking Calculus my senior year since I wanted to fit in my extra AP Environmental Science class.

I'm really starting to freak out since the Early Action deadline is next week.

If it is a requirement, hopefully it isn't, will an Independent Study in either Calculus or Statistics be sufficient?

Thanks.

The UVa representative that posts here, Dean J, has stated that they want to see students take core subjects all four years (math, English, science, social studies/history, & foreign language). If a student deviates from this by choice, conflict, or lack of available class, this should be explained.

I took 2 maths and 0 sciences my senior year, didn’t matter. What is your schedule as a whole looking like? That would help us better evaluate whether dropping math will hurt you. It says they want 4 years on this page [Admission | Office of Undergraduate Admission](http://www.admission.virginia.edu/admission)

I have VA & US Government CP, Environmental Science AP, English 12 Dual Enrollment, Photojournalism III, French III, Anatomy & Physiology Honors, and Photojournalism IV. I am also taking an Advanced Spanish independent study next semester.

It would be one thing if you were taking two AP sciences, or not taking Photo journalism, or taking an AP foreign language, but since none of those are the case, I think it will hurt you. However, you should not plan your life around getting into a college that may ultimately reject you anyways (I say this after taking 5 APs and 1 honors class my senior year just to get deferred… changed that up pretty quick after the deferral to 6 study hall sessions per week including 1.5hr lunch on fridays… ended up getting in regular decision but decided what I wanted was more important than what UVA might want). Best of luck with your choice in your schedule.
