Have choice to take either Math s118 or Math m118 for the fall, which one is better?

Also, what is a good 1 credit course (besides A100) to take? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Avoid M118 at all costs if you are not a business major.

He will be a business student this fall since he has GPA of 3.8 at IU, and has almost completed (one more week to go) all the required courses for applying to Kelley, so he will be a sophmore this fall. He didn’t take finite his freshman year, and our local cc does not offer transferable credit for finite either, so it becomes something he has to take at IU.

I would just take the non-honors version of finite. Good call not to take finite during freshman year.

EDUC U212 Issues in Education is very easy two credits. These are rescue classes designed to help at risk students who have dropped classes and need the two credits to remain at full time status for scholarships/financial aid purposes. But anybody can sign up for them. They don’t show up on the schedule until about six or seven weeks into the semester (so look for them then), so you can’t sign up when you sign up for other classes. Very easy two credits. They won’t help much with business degree requirements but no one-credit classes do anyway except A100. Here is last semesters grade distribution for U212.

Thanks bthomp, you are just so knowledgeable, and I have seen your posts with great advices. Greatly appreciate your guidance!

If it is necessary to take M118 and you think it will be very difficult, take it with X101. It is a learning strategies course tailored to M118 and 2 credits. Some work and often seems pointless, but it can be helpful.

It definitely depends on how great you are at math. M118 is very very similar to an Algebra 2 class in high school. X101 is great to take alongside it, and though I didn’t, I heard it was very helpful. If you study, M118 is not that bad at all.
And I also took an EDUC 212 class in the fall semester for 2 credits and loved it! The topics are interesting, and the work load (at least in my topic) was entirely manageable. I recommend it.
