Math SAT book- the best one you've used

Hey guys,

I'm understanding and going through the topics of the math section in the blue book, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend a book they have used that goes through all the math sections comprehensively. Post below for ideas; I'm not interested at the moment about strategies but content and knowledge.

Cheers

Hey
I think u might wanna try gruber’s sat math. The book is loaded with strategies to help you with the section of the test. The BB has strategies which are rather general and not really of much help. Seriously, it is hard to find a book as good as gruber, especially for sat meths section.
Best of luck :)

Thanks for this, I appreciate it!

Is it called the Gruber’s complete sat math workbook?

is the Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide 2012 the same thing as the complete SAT math workbook? same math content do you know?

I would have to say that it is most likely the same content. The only difference is that the Complete SAT Guide has stuff for all the sections in the SAT. Anyways, I am currently using it and its proving to be extremely helpful!

Powerscore Math Bible (not the Nova one). Hands down the best. Dr. Chungs is okay, but it’s just tips. Sometimes I need some math review. The Math Bible has both math review and how that math is tested.

Thanks for the comments; yea great my suspicions about the the complete SAT guide by Gruber’s should be similar, and I hadn’t heard of the powerscore Math bible so I’ll check that one out also.

Much appreciated
Eddy

No, they aren’t. The complete guide covers all the subjects and is extremely comprehensive in every section. Gruber’s maths is only for maths but covers the subject more deeply than the complete guide. Sorry for replying too late.

I found a pdf online and yes indeed the Gruber’s math workbook is different to the complete sat guide. I think the book is definitely the best for the math section.

Cheers

Hi Strategicfiasco, do you mind sharing pdf or you tell me where you got it from? Is it Grubber’s pdf?

As someone who used to omit ~ 9 questions on the math sections, I found Dr. Chung’s to be very useful to be honest, the only mistakes I make now are stupid mistakes and I omit none

Before Dr. Chung’s I had a 640. After, a 770. I’d definitely recommend it.

In my experience working with students on the SAT for the past 7 years, there is no 1 best book. The book that works best for student A may be of absolutely no help to student B. My recommendation is that you head down to the local library and try out a few sections in each of the books available there and see what helps YOU the most. Unfortunately, very few libraries are likely to have copies of PWN the SAT, Dr. Chung’s or the Powerscore Math Bible. As a student you would be hard pressed to justify the expense of ordering all of these books. As a tutor who earns a good part of his living working with SAT students I can easily justify the expense, and, incidentally, deduct the expense from my taxes. There is no one size fits all book, I use all of them in different concentrations depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the students. Every time you read a student say that this book is the best or that book is the best, remember that what they are really saying is that this book worked the best FOR THEM. Ask around your school, I would not be at all surprised if just about every book mentioned on this thread were available from a student that had used them previously. Seniors in your school would most likely be willing to get rid of their old SAT books, assuming of course that they do not have younger siblings that they are saving the books for. Try them out and get a better idea of what works for you.

Dr chung’s book. It helped me to solve many problem in a short time.

Test your self first.
If you score more than 650 on Math, then you should get Dr.Chung’s book. And if you score below it get Gruber’s Complete SAT Guide.

There is NOTHING special about Dr Chung, except it’s lack of full relevance and its many typos.

Most of the recommendations for that junk on CC are suspect, or simply evidence of the one-eyed leading the blind.

Personally, I have been using the Grubers Complete Guide for the SAT 2012, it contains 18 Strategies, 8 Math Refreshners, and 5 full tests. I would definitely recommend it, however dont stay with only one opinion.

I second (third? fourth?) the Gruber’s SAT Math Book. It’s great in reviewing concepts thoroughly and has a bunch of practice. The layout is awesome, too.

^I don’t exactly know why xiggi hates Dr. Chung’s so much but I thought it was really a boon to my math on the sat. It does have a few typos here and there, but nothing that would detract from the usefulness of the book. It gives you 50 tips that are a mixed bag, but good to look over nonetheless even though some of them are common sense. One of the greatest parts of the book is the 20 practice math tests that are all extremely difficult and more challenging than the bulk of most regular sat questions. They model the most difficult questions on the sat, and therefore, the ones that people are most likely going to lose points on. If you’re diligent and you pay close attention to your mistakes and make sure to fix them before the next practice, you’re score will increase dramatically. By doing such hard problems, the easy problems seem like a breeze and the harder ones are much more familiar and less daunting.
