Math SAT IIs - Help!

Hi, I am currently in 11th grade, and my math class this year is AP Statistics. I took Geometry in 9th grade and Algebra 2 Honors (includes Trig) in 10th grade. I was supposed to take Precalculus this year, but there was a schedule conflict and to make a long story short, I ended up taking AP Stats this year instead of Precalc. I will be taking Precalculus as a senior.

I'm planning on taking my SAT IIs in June 2010, the end of this school year. Can someone explain to me the differences between the SAT II for Math I and Math II? Is it just that Math II covers more advanced math? What does "Math IIc" mean? "Math Ic?" Will taking Math I and not Math II hurt me when I apply to colleges?

ap stat will really help.

if you’re above pre-calc level, definately take Math II.
i had friends who took Math I and II after finishing pre-calc and did worse on Math I.
the problem is, the topics covered are slightly different; Math II has statistics, which you will be prepared for

Math I has lower level math concepts and might be considered “easy” But the curve for the exam is harsh.

Math II tests on a wider range of concepts, including pre-calc and has somewhat harder concepts but it has an easier curve. You can miss up to 6 questions and still get an 800.

Most colleges would rather see Math II. If you’re going into engineering or anything based on math, you should take Math II. Also, the UC’s require Math II.

I wouldn’t recommend taking Math II if you haven’t studied Pre-calculus.

Can you give me a rundown of what was covered? Because in Pre-Calc my teacher didn’t really teach me anything… I’m in AP Calculus right now btw but I know Math IIs have a lot of precalculus but I didn’t learn much of that. Please help :S

Are there any practice tests online somewhere? Any prep stuff that I can read so I can prepare for the test? Thanks for any help.

You can use the Sparknotes practice tests to see how prepared you are. Normally, students take Math II after precal, but you may be an exception. Take a test and see how you do.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

Harambee, I will probably be applying to several UCs, so I guess I’ll take one of the practice SparkNotes tests and see how I do. I’ll look through the college board Math Subject Tests guide as well. My main concern is whether I can learn the precalculus that I’ll need to score well on the subject test out of a prep book… they’re usually written to supplement an actual textbook, right? Anybody have experience with preparing for the math SAT IIs and know the best prep books?

I was actually 1 question off to get an 800 on the Math ic…780 =/
