Math/Science ECs for MIT, Caltech, etc

Hi!

I was just looking at the applications for top engineering schools such as MIT and Caltech. I noticed that they have specific sections for me to list the Math and Science Activities that in which I have participated.

I go to a fairly small and new school, where we are still building our activities. The activities in which I have participated are Newspaper, Model UN, Jazz Band, and Student Government. The only Math/Science "thing" in which I have participated is the AMC 10 and 12(it's not even an activity).

Will this detract from my application to those kinds of top engineering schools?

Thanks in advance!

Sure it will... so what steps have you taken to remedy your circumstances?

Colleges like students who went above and beyond their given environment to do something special.

You'll be judged in the context of what was available to you. Most MIT admits don't have huge science and math ECs and awards -- check out last year's decisions thread to see what kinds of students are admitted.
