Math/Science Help

Hello,
Needed some advice about Math/Science course selection. I'm in IB, (currently in BC Calc + AP Chem), and personally do not have ANY interest in math/science currently or in the future. I really do not want to do IB Chem HL (higher level) but want to do EVS (environemental systems) to fill the science requirement and Math SL (standard level) to fill the math requirement. I'm planning to have 3-4 HL's in history, global politics, and english. This is not because I do I think math/science is too hard, but my intended major is econ/int relations, and personally I don't think chem and complex numbers have anything to do with these majors, so would colleges think of this schedule as a "cop out" or would they see, oh makes sense, it isn't really his interest? Would this effect college admission at say, MIT, where the business/econ program is great, but the school is globally known as math/sciency? Thanks.

If admitted to MIT, you’re going to take chemistry and calculus (up to multi-variable) anyway. Also, some economics classes (e.g. 14.04) requires calculus II as a prereq. I say stick with those classes; you may be able to obtain credit or test out of them so you don’t have to take them in college.

@MITer94, I see where you are coming from… I guess I’ll put my personal interest aside and learn what I need to learn.

If you are in AP calculus BC, taking IB math SL would be a step backward (IB math HL probably has a lot of overlap with AP calculus BC).

Note that MIT’s General Institute Requirements require considerable math and science, and MIT does not offer “for poets” versions of math and science courses.

What would are your views about Chem HL?
