Math sequence/AP Stats

Hello, I want to take math every semester of high school, if applicable, and I have it mostly planned out.

8th grade
-Math I/Algebra I

9th grade
-Math II/Geometry HNRS
-Math III/Algebra II HNRS

10th grade
-Pre-Calculus
-???

11th grade
-AP Calculus Preparation
-AP Calculus AB

12th grade
-Maybe AP Calculus BC?
-MVC

Some guidelines first:
-AP Calculus Prep and AP Calculus AB must be taken in the same year at my high school.
-I said maybe on AP Calculus BC because it isn’t offered at my high school yet, but is offered at another high school. At that high school, AP Calculus AB and BC must be taken in the same year. If I take those courses there, my whole plan may be butchered starting in 10th grade.

Now to the question:
In 10th grade, where the ?? marks are, there are two classes I could take. Discrete Math HNRS or AP Stats.

At my high school, Discrete Math HNRS is just statistics, really, but applied to social behaviors and stuff. AP Stats is, well, you know, statistics. Tbh, I hate statistics, but I’m willing to give it a try. I’m leaning on AP Stats more, since its AP weight and credit. Which one should I take?

Note: There is many other math courses, such as Advanced Functions and Modeling, but there isn’t an honors available, and it’s just the easier version of trigonometric, polynomial, inverse, and so on, functions.

OMG High School Thread please. My phone keeps posting threads in the wrong places lol. Or I forget to change forums.

How does your school let you take a whole math course in a semester? Regardless, make sure you do well (I assume you move pretty damn fast) and try to get into the Advanced class, if possible. As long as you get to AP Calc AB by senior year you’ll be fine. You can double up senior year with AB and AP Stats.

I’d take discrete math over statistics, unless the AP attached to stats matters a lot for whatever reason. Also, it seems difficult to take MVC without having taken BC, but maybe I’m wrong. Since you seem to like math, discrete will probably be better prep for math competitions like the AMC, based on what I’ve heard.

Why can’t you take AB and BC your junior year? If it’s not at your school, why do you have to follow the requirement of taking AP calc preparation? For sophomore year, take discrete and precalc. For senior year, take MVC and AP stats.

Take Discrete Math Honors.
In addition, the program you’ve set for yourself is VERY ambitious. That pace is break-neck. Remember that it might not work out. As long as you have Calculus AB senior year, you’re good (quite above most students who get to precalculus - at Harvard, for instance, about 2/3 admitted students have had some form of calculus, nothing beyond, and quite a % only had precalc.)
Remember that top schools will want to see 1 of English, Math, Foreign Language, Science, and Social Science, every year, plus electives that reflect your interests.

This is my math sequence:
7th: Alg 1 Honors
8th: Geo Honors
9th: Alg 2 Honors
10th: Precalc Honors
11th: Calc BC
12th: AP Stats + Online Multivariable Calculus

I would probably take Discrete Math Honors and self-study AP Stats, if you’re interested in a math/science career, especially CS>
