math/stats/comp-sci. majors ; get in here!

i noticed there aren't that many people majoring in the above subjects at our school :c

i hope this thread becomes a place we can share insights into the classes we'll all to have to take.

3rd year Stats/ Actuarial Science emphasis major here:

Classes this semester:

Stat350B

Stat551B

Econ320

RTM404 :)

Also studying for an Actuarial exam…busy, busy.

Statistics emphasis in statistical computing.
transferred last fall so this my second semester here

i got
Stat 550
CS 310
math 252

had math 541 for few days but i feel like i’ll be better prepared for its intensity at a later time. i also had math 523 b/c i thought it was going to help with real analysis but before the drop deadline the class was learning about circuit boards…■■■

hows 350a, stat551a and rtm404?
also, have you looked into game theory? pretty damn interesting stuff.

Honestly, I think that the 350 set is more in depth than 551. If you’re comfortable with Calc, 551A is cake. The probability distributions are basic.

RTM 404 has to be the best GE at SDSU. I took CS 301 last semester, & it was great too.

Game theory is cool stuff. If I had time, I’d tack it on for sure. But, my priority right now is passing actuarial exams, & maintaining the GPA in major. I have a kid on the way, so I need to put myself in the best position possible for a job offer prior to graduation.

BTW, I’m a transfer from Palomar & this is my second semester as well. Going from (8) years in the Marines to a life in Math has been an interesting ride… :)
