Math Transfer chances

I was wondering what my chances would be to transfer into Cornell Math at the end of next year 2011.
Attending Florida State University
GPA: 4.0
SAT: 2060
HS GPA: 4.0 graduated HS in three years
MAth courses taken/received credit for: Cal 1, Cal 2, Cal 3 (Multivariable), Applied Linear Algebra 1, Ordinary Differential Equations.
Math courses for semester 3: Advanced Calc 1 (real analysis), Applied Linear Algebra 2, Mathematical statistics 1
Projected math courses for semester 4: ADV Calc 2, Programming for CS and math majors (Not math but recommended by Corenell Math)
Science courses taken/received credit for: Intro bio 1,2, gen chem 1,2, physics with calc 1,2

ECs: Currently working as a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home for the summer, Major work with political activism concerning LGBT rights and creating several student programs to aid LGBT youth. Those are my only two ECs of significance and I feel like having only those two is my major flaw in my app.

-I can write an amazing essay
- I don't have any research and I haven't made plans to do so.

Assuming I get a 3.5+ in semester 3 what would my projected chances for Cornell Math be? Would you consider Cornell MAth easier or harder to get into than other majors? Is research completely necessary as a transfer app? Should I play up being gay as a diversity thing or do you think mentioning it might in fact hurt my application due to adcom's personal views?

Anyone???

bump10char

I know of a math person who transferred from a California CC last year. He basically had the same stats.

Good luck!

The Math Major program requires four prerequisites:

A unit on infinite series, as usually done in calc 2
A course in intro linear algebra (B- or better)
A course in multivariable calculus (B- or better)
One introductory course in programming (C- or better)

So long as you fit that, you’ll be fine for admittance to the major. The math department won’t be admitting you, so I wouldn’t worry about that. It’s kind of hard to get decent research experience in your early undergrad, anyway.

But, yeah, you’ll need to convince the undergrad admissions office, not the math department =)

@Zakaqel That’s good to know, thanks.
@Sheogorath Good to know that its undergrad admissions, but if it is just admissions should I focus mainly on mathematics as it is my major and area of interest or should I be more general since it is not a specific department. Also, what kind of things should I include or add to my transfer application to increase chances of admission that are not listed above?
