Math versus Calculus Placement Test

Hello, when I visited several UChicago webpages, they said that ALL incoming freshmen were obligated to take the online math placement test, regardless of:

Whether they planned on taking the calculus placement test and

Whether they had already gotten a good enough score on the AP Calc BC exam to place out of the first two quarters of calculus.

However, I talked to a few friends who are now upperclassmen there, and looked at a few forums as well, and they all said that taking both the online placement exam AND the calculus placement exam (given during O-week) was not the normal procedure. What exactly am I supposed to do?

Have they changed the placement process recently? That's the only reason I can think of for getting contradictory information.

Please let me know, and thank you!

From what I understand, all incoming freshmen have to take the math placement exam online. You only have to take the calculus placement exam during O-Week if you feel you should be placed into a higher-level calculus class than your AP score would let you.

Yes, you are right, thank you for responding. It was a silly question. Things have changed since my friends were freshmen, and the math test is mandatory after all.
