not sure if this is mathematically (sp?) possible. my son has just under a 2.6 gpa for first 3 years of high school. is it possible to get to a 3.0 by the end of senior year? what final grades would he need? asking for scholarship purposes. thanks!

ps he has 118 credits earned for first 3 years. i know there is some formula using credits earned.

Has your son failed any classes? That would affect the calculations in post #4: one could distinguish between gpa based on credits earned and gpa based on credits attempted.

The formula YOUR school uses for computing GPA is the one you should be looking at. These vary wildly by high school. Some schools give different weightings to honors/ap classes and others do not. Some schools value + md - marks and others do not. And the point equivalent of those B+ or B- marks vary from place to place. The way to get this question best answered is to find out how YOUR high school computes GPA. I will venture that if the GPA is 2.6 over the three year period, I think it will take a mighty perfect senior year to raise that above 3.0 overall. Agreed with others...does your school allow students to retake courses and use the higher grade? Were there any extenuating circumstances that might make retaking yield a higher grade the second time?

thanks for the replies. no he hasn't failed any courses but did end up with a couple of d's. will ask the school for the calculation but pulling straight a's is going to be tough as we are nearing end of senior year. a tough financial lesson and will have to hope for the best and make sure his first year grades at college are good.

Oh, I thought your S was a junior and would start senior year in the fall...doubt there is enough time to make it out of the hole he dug for himself.
