I was thinking of Math 16a/16b or Math 1a/1b. I got a 5 on Calculus BC test. Is 1 series considerably harder than 16 series? I took BC course when i was a junior though.

Just take Math 53 or 54. A 5 on the BC test is more than enough to qualify you for them.

how difficult are math 53/54?

53 and 54 aren't too bad--I took 54 last semester (got an A), and am taking 53 right now, both as a high school senior. 54 is, I think, more theoretical than what most high schoolers are used to, so it might be surprising, but it's not too hard other than that. 53 is just like upgraded calculus--nothing else.

53 is multivariable calculus and 54 is linear algebra.
