Math?

OK...

i qualify for calc next year (ab or bc but id prob take bc just because well you'll see...)

i dropped honors math this year and went to regulars (well, with a grade above me) because it was pulling down my average (although the reg is acutally pulling my grade down more now UGH teacher). most people from the class i am in now go straight to pre calc. I however, as i said before, qualify for calc because of my average and well, my gc likes me.

im contemplating. im already taking a class loaded with APs with LOTS of homework. Most people with the schedule i have now pull all nighters a lot (YAY MY FIRST ALL NIGHTER NEXT YEAR IM SOO EXCITED! =( lol) and i prob would have even a more difficult time because im involved with lots of ECs...i usually am not able to do homework till i get home (which could be anywhere from usually 530 to even 11). Heres my question...

would it look bad on a college app (or like i took the easy way out) if i took pre calc instead?? im looking into more english and social studies related majors. the college in particular is brown (im in love and am going to work, work, WORK!). this would be my junior year next year.

how hard is calc bc generally?

If you're decent in math, then take the ap calc.

Personally, I loved calc bc. Maybe because I was surrounded by a good-humored group of seniors.

Since I'm a math-addict (or so people think), calc bc was not too difficult. It's fun. Plus, the AP test has a very nicely skewed distribution. Get in the top 35% and you're guaranteed a 5. :)

Yeah man for real... Take AP CALC... I'll tell you why:

I was the complete opposite of you this year. I am not a history buff. I really don't enjoy reading history non-fiction or learning heavily about the past, so I decided not to take AP US H and just take regular US History. Well, it turns out that US History is just a memorization class and is a pain in the butt and a waste of time--instead of actually important things... So I say talk AP Calc BC, because it might be tough at times, but instead of being in class with complete idiots, you will be with high class seniors.

hows the homework load though? i mean im going to ask people in the class right now but i'm already swamped. I'd take the class but I need SOME sleep, ya know?

what other APs are you taking?

You'd be skipping precalc -- do you know your trigonometry/other precalc material? sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1, law of cosines, trig equations, vectors, and so forth? Do those ring a bell?

If not, don't take Calculus, of any sort. You'd be doing yourself a huge disservice. Unless your Algebra II program covers an unusual amount of material, you really, really need the stuff in precalc (for both Calc BC and college). Not to mention, you'll never get to repeat Precalc in college.

The real question underlying "should I skip a class?" should always be "do I know the material?"

fizix, i think im fairly comfortable with that stuff. i'm not exactly skipping a class. the "math 4" class is designed to "reinforce" certain principles (prob that stuff).

swim, ill also be taking;
AP BIO: a fair amount of homework although they say its getting harder every year at my school
AP US History: not much, or basically things I can do on the weekends so I don't think it will give me much trouble.
AP Lang and Comp: TONS of homework!!!!!!!! TONS TONS TONS TONS TONS
and than a Semi-AP Italian class (Italian IV) which I don't see me having a problem with at all...

THANKS EVERYONE WHO REPLIED!
