Sorry for infringing...I can see all of you are excited to start at MIT and here come's a wee senior! haha.
But I have a question. So I've been harboring this dream of attending MIT but one thing stands in my way: math. I just scored a 650 on math, and it was only level 1! And the funny thing is that I'm not a bad mathematician, I've just never been able to do well on standardized math. But on the flip side, I have a 770 in Chem, a score I think is pretty good! So my question is, is it even worth the bother to retake Math? Can a 770 in Chem outbalance it? I mean I have a 760 in Literature, and a 790 in World History, I'd be ok at any other school with no math requirement, basically the only reason I took the Math subject test was for MIT

It would be advisable to retake the math SAT II, if possible. The middle 50% of accepted students at MIT score between 740 and 800 on the math SAT II, so a 650 would put you far below the vast majority of accepted students, and below the majority of applicants.

Scores aren’t everything, but it’s best to have scores in or around the 700s to get into MIT.

I would definitely retake the math. Consider taking math 2 even, you may find it easier (I studied about 2 days for it and received a 730). Knowing that, you could probably study half an hour every day for the rest of the summer and receive an 800 on math 2. I would seriously do it.

P.S. - I am NOT a great mathematician, so don’t take that post as a brag please! HAHA.

Haha, yeah, I realized my math score put me far below a lot of the MIT students, but at least I have a nice chemistry score.
Thanks for the advice! I think I may actually take Math Level II…I’ve always felt as if the problem on these standardized tests for me is the geometry, but I was just worried about taking Level 2 because I haven’t taken Pre-Calc yet

I scored a 650 on the math section of the SAT I, a 670 on the Math I SAT II, and a 600 (yes, quite embarrassing) on the Chem SAT II and was admitted.

^whoa cool! just curious, ru a urm??

Fully Mexican! :D

oh lucky!! do uknow the stats of other ppl who were admitted??

Not really… After the chem subject test, I kinda tried to get used to the idea that I’d be rejected. But I wasn’t. Don’t let test scores get to your head too much.
