<p>Hi I'm going to do Freshmen Connection this fall and I was just wondering which math course I should put down on my FC enrollment form.
I took Calculus I this year and took Calc AB test but I can't wait for my AP score because the FC enrollment deadline is May 13th.
So should I just put MATH140? or should I put 141?</p>
<p>Also I have some other questions regarding engineering major.
It says courses required for engineering are :</p>
<p>Required Fall 2011 courses for students considering Engineering:
MATH141 (MATH140 and MATH115 are prerequisites)
CHEM135
UNIV10</p>
<p>Recommended Fall 2011 courses for students considering Engineering:
ENES210 or ENES141
CORE FE, HL, HO, HA, SH, SB (see Courses by CORE sheet)</p>
<p>but CHEM135 is under [FRESHMEN CONNECTION 2011 Non - CORE COURSES]. Does this mean I can't take the class during fall doing FC?</p>
<p>and lastly,
as stated above, recommended courses for students considering Engineering include
CORE FE, HL, HO, HA, SH, SB
but do I really have to take all that to get into Engineering? (I'm currently in Letters and Science)
I looked at the CORE sheet and they all sound really boring to me (greek/roman mythology, poetry, history etc)</p>
<p>Sorry for asking too many questions.
Thank You!</p>
<p>edit : engineering major is LEP so it says I need 45 credits but will I be able to get all 45 credits? You can only get up to 17 credits in FC :(</p>
<ol>
<li>if you think you will get 4 or 5 on AP calculus, sigh up for math 141, and put math 140 as an alternate course
2 You can take chem 135 in the fall as long as you sign up
3 if you think those core courses are boring, you don’t have to take it. However, you will need to take some of them in the future in order to graduate.
4 it seems that you don’t read everything carefull. “45 credits” is a series of gateway courses for thoes who accpeted into the LEP program, below is the transfer admission requirements:
“Transfer Admission Requirements: Students beyond their first semester and those off campus wishing to transfer are required to meet the following gateway criteria:
Completion of Fundamental Studies English*
Completion of MATH 141 (Calculus II) with a minimum grade of 2.0
Completion of PHYS 161 (Physics I) with a minimum grade of 2.0
Completion of CHEM 113 (Chemistry II), CHEM 135 or CHEM 271 with a minimum grade of 2.0
Completion of at least one of Distributive Studies course* from the Humanities or Social Sciences
Bioengineering students must also complete BIOE 120 with a minimum grade of 3.0”</li>
</ol>
<p>I got a 5 on AP Calculus AB test, but signed up for Math 140 for the Fall just to make sure I didn’t get in over my head. Since math is so important, I just wanted to make sure I had a good grounding in college level math. I took 141 this semester and it was harder – I was definitely glad I took Math 140, even as a refresher for HS math.</p>
<p>really easy. i thought i completely failed mine (and i’m NOT a math person; i took regular pre-calc senior year and barely paid attention) and got into 140 (or 141, whichever is the highest; i always get them confused)</p>
<p>MAKE SURE you have taken it before going to Orientation. Every year, it is amazing the number of people who act as though they’ve never heard that they needed to take a math exam (and hadn’t set up a University email address yet) before they got to Orientation.</p>
<p>You can do it while you are there, but it’s better to go in a little less clueless!</p>
<p>UMD is actually switching over to Google Apps instead of the current Mirapoint system this summer. Just FYI.
