I got a 730 on Math2 from the June test which is at a 72 percentile. I know I could do better because the June test was just unusually hard. Should I retake it if I'm applying to highly selective schools (WashU, USC, Duke, Northwestern)?

Someone from another thread said that it's pointless to retake SAT subject tests that are 700+. Colleges prefer you to spend your time on something better..

I am in the exact same situation you are in. I took it in June. I got a 730. I debated this question...

I'm retaking it. I know I can do better and more importantly I only NEED one more subject test, so why not tack it on with the other one since I am confident I will do better. If you need to take the SAT/really work on college apps then do that instead, but if you're like me, then it takes up no real extra time.

dudes...i got a 760 in june which was 83 percentile
and i thought i could easily get an 800 if i tried again

so what happens
i study a little bit and take the test again in october
the test was unexpectedly a lot harder than the one in june
i ended up getting 720 (Im still waiting for the percentile)

so my point is:
dont think the june test was as hard as it can get, it CAN get harder. you might get unlucky like me and do worse.

there is also a very popular consensus here on CC that the october Math2 test was super hard, harder than ever, thats what she said.

so my answer is: keep your 730. yes getting a 780 will help, but it wont help enough for you to risk trying again and doing worse.
