MathCamp, ROSS, HCSSiM, PROMYS.

Does anyone know what the average acceptance rates for MathCamp, ROSS, HCSSiM, and PROMYS are? Do they have competitive admissions? What qualities do they look for in an applicant?

Has anyone been to any of these four programs? How was your experience there? Any advice?

I am not bumping this thread up.

The Summer Programs forum moves quite fast, doesn't it? :D

So, u r frustrated too! I was a long time ago, and so I hardly start new threads here.........seems like, u r having couple of downfalls w/ new threads! (lol! the Captain something thread!)

I dislike bumping my own threads up. Thus, I will not bump this thread.

:):D:mad::confused::cool::eek::p;):rolleyes::(:o

READ POST 5!!!!

By the way, I haven't got any reply on that Chaos Theory Discussion though!

I went to HCSSiM; I liked it enough to go back the next year. It's a small program (smallest of the four? maybe) and immensely enjoyable. Highly recommended.

I don't think there's anywhere you can learn anything about acceptance rates, short of contacting the directors directly, and even then they probably won't tell you. But I think it varies pretty greatly, from program to program and from year to year. Colleges do like seeing any of them on applications, though, irrespective of their competitiveness.

I do know a little about Mathcamp, though. It's a lot bigger than HCSSiM, and I think that, partially as a function of this, you have even more choice in what to study than HCSSiM. (Aside: Ross and PROMYS apparently focus on number theory, so I'd assume [with no actual evidence] that you have the least choice at those two.) But it's shorter and more expensive, and, I gather, more stressful? I don't know.

Oh, and if you have to bump this in future, may I suggest: "Ceci n'est pas un bump?"

You might ask this on the parent's forum. I believe there are several parents there whose children have attended. Also, if you haven't been on the Art of Problem Solving, they have a forum where you can ask questions about summer programs. http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/

There was a chat on AoPS last Tuesday about HCSSiM...

Merci.

Ceci n'est pas un bump?

If you're really interested in HCSSiM, PM me.

I don't actually know of what the accpetance rates are, but just look at the problems on their application, and try them.

CT, let me know ur result!

i am going to promys over ross

I’ve never heard about acceptance rates for any of these programs. I know each program declines to accept at least a few applicants. For all I know, most applicants are screened out by the self-selection of doing the admission quiz. But I recall MathPath (a program for younger children) had a base acceptance rate WELL below 50 percent in summer 2005, when there was a press report about it.

S2 is going to mathpath this summer and i’ll tell youabout it when he gets back…

I just sent in my promys application this weekend and they received it. Does anybody know if I will receive a reply before May 30th, or will I be in the same round as the people who mailed it on that day?

The PROMYS acceptance rate is around 30%
Also, I think girls have a better chance of making PROMYS

mathemonster, why did you pick promys over ross?
