Hello, how is mathematical science major? I was hoping to work in a software company after college so will this major help me with my dream? I am certain I'll have to take computer-related courses throughout my 4 years but not sure if I am able to with this major. Also, does this major have good job prospects right after college? Difficulties compared to physics major? Any type of information regarding to this major is very helpful.

Can you provide the coursework you will have to take to major in Mathematical Science at your institution? Is there not a computer science major at your school?

I would say different people will find different majors challenging (Math, statistics, physics, computer science, etc.) depending on their way of thinking.

Hi! Thank you! These are upper division courses from someone who told me!!! - 2 terms linear algebra
- 2-3 terms numerical analysis (likely proof-based, have not taken)
- 2 terms intro to proofs/analysis
- 2-3 terms real analysis
- 1 term complex variables
- 1 term differential geometry or ODEs
- 3 electives

There doesn’t seem to be many computer science courses. Although you don’t absolutely need to take comp sci classes, it’s very beneficial if you do and will help you down the road. Why not switch to computer science?

Because it’s very hard to switch into college of engineering. Extremely difficult :(

Or what can I do with this major? What kind of jobs are available? Solid paying jobs?

Math, applied math, and statistics majors common go into finance or actuarial jobs, sometimes into computer jobs. In either case, appropriate elective choices should be made as preparation (i.e. if you want to work in software, add computer science courses).

That should have good job prospects but even better if you include some CS coursework, like what would be expected as a minor.

Thank you Bumppppppp anyone else?
