Mathematics Level 1 vs. Level 2???

hi guys. i'm planning on taking 2-3 SAT subjects tests, and want to get 750+ on each. i as wondering: if i take Mathematics Level 1 over Mathematics Level 2, do you think that will negatively affect my chances at an Ivy (e.g. Columbia U)? in other words, does the score matter more than the test subject itself?

if i take Level 2 and get a decent but not excellent score, is that better than taking Level 1 and getting a perfect score?

i'm sorry, i'm not too good at explaning things :-/

If you’re confident that you’ll get a perfect score on the level 1 test, go for it. Keep in mind that you have to get everything right, according to what I’ve heard. Just getting one wrong results in 780, I think.

Take Math level 2.

Math Level 1: 1 wrong~780-790

Math Level 2: 5-6 WRONG~800

Definitely Take Math Level 2. I suggest using Collegeboard’s Math Levels 1+2 study Guide and Barron’s Math Level 2 study guide. These are what I’m going to be using. Also, it is reccommended that you take Math Level 2 after or near the end of a Pre-Calculus Course.

thank you for the helpful reply. i’ll be done with pre calculus in June (i’m currently taking it), so should i take the subject test in June?

and are you sure that if i get 5-6 wrong on the Math 2, i will still be able to get an 800?

5 or 6 wrong is about a 780 or 770 because you get additional points docked off if you get it wrong (as supposed to skipping it).

To be absolutely sure of an 800, aim for -3 or -4

so what is accurate? 5-6 wrong or 3-4 wrong?

to be absolutely sure (for all sorts of curves), aim for -3 or -4

sometimes -5 or -6 can get you 800, sometimes not (depending on the difficulty of the test)

oh ok. thank you guys, i am pretty sure that i will take Math 2 (i’m almost done with pre cal, and finished with a decent grade).

I recommend taking the Math II right after Pre-Calculus. The test is all Pre-Calculus and other previous courses. Once you start taking Calculus, formulas start fading from your memory.

Math 2 has an easier curve 43+/50 raw is an 800
