Mathematics question

Hello all; ideally, I'll be transferring to UCB in spring as a mathematics major and I still don't have a discrete mathematics course. I was initially going to do summer at UCB, but two things are stopping me: it starts the monday after my Finals end and I live in SoCal. I was curious if anyone has taken the Math 61 course at UCLA (Discrete Structures) and knew if it was an equivalence. Or, if not, does anyone know of the equivalent course at UCLA?

The title makes it sound like it is equivalent; you may want to ask Berkeley’s Math Department about it. If you do not transfer until spring, can you take it in the fall at a community college*?

But it is not absolutely mandatory to take it before transfer, since only a few (elective) upper division math courses list it as a prerequisite, though it is presumably included because various proof techniques taught in that course are used in many other upper division math courses.

Your first semester schedule at Berkeley will probably be something like Math 110 or H110, Math 55 (if you do not take such a course elsewhere), and two other courses (math or otherwise).

*Community colleges near UCLA with a Berkeley Math 55 equivalent:

El Camino College Math 210
LA City College Math 272
Santa Monica College Math 10 / CS 10

Yeah, I know it’s not required but I figured I might as well get something useful done in summer. If I don’t take it in summer, I have Math 55, H110, 104, and 115 planned. It would be pretty cool to get one of those done early so I have a slot for something else :]
