Maths 2C Graphing Calculator

Hey everyone!

I know this sounds random, but I live in South Africa and don't think that graphing calculators are available in the country - until recently I didn't even know they existed! lol :) So, I'm just asking for a little advice: what's the best graphing calculator in terms of user-friendliness, responsiveness (it has to be pretty quick, I am going to be taking the Maths 2C after all :)), and price?

Thanks so much to everyone who replies! :)

A TI-84+ is perfectly adequate. No need for a TI-89. The 84+ ranges from $100-130.

A TI-83+ is good also...i agree w/ bettyelms that the ti-89 is overkill...

most of the math on the test can solely be done on the 89 if used properly..., but yea 83 should be enough, you make the choice

Great! Thanks everyone! :)

I think you should go with the TI 83+. That's the calculator most high school students have.

the TI-89 has a huge advantage over the TI-83/84 in terms of capability. Go with that.

and if you don't find one: don't worry: I took the test without and it works.

Saves you maybe a minute or two but it can be done on a scientific one...

If you're going to take the Math 2C soon, I say go for the TI-84+ or 83+, because they are much easier to learn quickly. If there is time, and/or you're going to be taking Calculus, I say go with the TI-89, because it'll benefit you there big time.

Thanks everyone! I'm taking it next year sometime (probably june/julyish), so I guess I have time to learn how to use whichever (and I am taking calculus. And stats. Don't you have to for the 2C?)...What's the difference between the TI-83+/84+ and the TI-89, though? Because (as you can see - oh, and that's a horrible way to start a sentence, :) my English teacher would kill me! lol), I'm being told a variety of things by different people and I clearly have no clue! I currently use a scientific calculator (and am very comfortable with it), but it doesn't graph (which is a setback)...so...thanks for any help you can give me! :)

It took forever to learn the TI-89 (And still not completely learned!!) But it's very very useful!!

89 will save your life in calc though :)

The integration is REALLY NICE...

they better get graphing calculators before world cup 2010.

does the ti 89 make the math IIc easier, i mean does the math on the iic even apply to the ti 89 more so than the ti 83+?

chocaholic0029: Not really. I just bought the 89 cause it was going to be an investment anyway...any graphing calculator will make Math IIC easier. Some of the questions you can use the "solve" function on the TI to get the answers, graph to find the maximum points etc...

u cud use a TI83+ or even casio 9800 series..

Oh yeah dude, I remember. I used to live there for 3 years and I couldn't find a TI-83plus. I was in Johannesburg, so I went down to Sandton and found a stationery shop which sold quite a few different scientific/graphing calculators (the upper end kind). I can't remember the shop name, but they volunteered to order a ti-83 plus for me at an upped price. In the end I went back to my own country over the break and got it there instead..It's so darned difficult to find one in SA: I agree.

how come u guys didnt think of buying it over the internet or somethin..

because trusted sites like amazon.com don't really deliver overseas
