Maths IIC, Physics, and...? Am I allowed to do the Math IC as well??

I'm applying to Harvard, and was wondering whether they would accept Math IIc and Math IC as two subject tests out of the required three, or would I have to sit Literature or French or whatever else I choose to do?

It counts as three, certainly, but I think you could produce a more impressive three. I would argue that showing a breadth of skill through the SAT2 tests is your best bet. If you have a great Math IIC score, it will look more impressive than any Math IC score (although it can be argued that the Math IC requires more care as the curve is tough, but the math is a lot easier).

While this is a horribly simplified analogy, it's like saying "Ah, applicant X can calculate x+2=4, wonderful. For this next test, it shows that this applicant can solve 4+4. Well, that's kind of obvious, no?"

My point is, a good Math IIC score should be enough and you are better off selecting a different third test to show another facet of your abilities to the admissions officers. However, if you are just caring about getting three tests to them and nothing more, two math tests will count.

Yeah, Sephiroth is right. You can take Math IIC and IC, but you shouldn't. You want to have at least three of your SAT IIs in different "spheres" (history, lit, math, science, language). Then take the other math test as a fourth SAT II, if you want.

I took Math IC and Chemistry at the end of sophomore year, and then Math IIC and Physics at the end of junior year. I didn't include the IC score in my three though, as it was my lowest. But even if you look at the rest of my scores, it would all point toward math/science:
MathIIC, Physics, Chem, high SATI Math

My SATI verbal and writing scores were 680v and 740w.

I thought that was going to hurt my application, as it all seems to indicate that I can't write too well (not true :)), but it didn't.

IMO, I'd try to diversify them like Phoenixy said...but then again, I didn't.

harvard says you cant take maths IC and IIC...i emailed them

what? really? i thought they just said it is not recommended and i emailed them too - Hic- anyway, it was what i did and i sent my app already so there is no way to change anything....

Not recommended = you should definitely not do this.

I took both Maths as my three, and I got accepted.

My only three sat IIs were Math 1, math 2, and us histoy (790, 780, 730).

I got in.
