I'm applying to Princeton, and was wondering whether they would accept Math IIc and Math IC as two subject tests out of the required three, or would I have to sit Literature or French or whatever else I choose to do?

im not the admissions expert, but the general consensus from other threads i've read is no...

im not sure, but i think i recall in the on-campus information session the admissions officer mentioned that math only counts for one sat ii...

They count as separate tests. So the Math IIC and Math IC would count as two of the three required subject tests.

Yes, you can. One of my classmates got recruited to Haahhhvahhd, and he took the II and the I. It's kind of a cheap shot, though. The II is really easy, and the I is just embarrassing if you come from a decent school.

Well that's not very nice, some folks arent math inclined...

The Math I can be plenty hard for some people

^EEK. Sorry. I don't mean to offend. It's just that if you can take the II and perform well, you probably shouldn't take the I. Like CityKnight06 said, it's for those who are particularly science/math oriented, and it just makes you seem a little lazy if you can already master the more challenging tests.

Son called Princeton today with a similar question. He asked them if it was possible to take the SAT II in US History and the SAT II in World History and have both scores count. They told him definitely not.....that two scores from a single area (math, hist, etc.) would not be counted as filling their requirement.

Son has now signed up to take the Eng Lit Sat II in Jan. He thought he was done with testing....

If US History and World History SAT IIs are too similar does that mean Biology and Chemistry would also be too similar? and is it best to take tests in subjects you plan to pursue in college? I plan to take a math/science route, but I expect I would score better on the US History exam than chemistry because of better in class prep.

Take whatever tests you will score the highest on. They go through so many applications; they aren't going to sit and analyze why you took certain tests. They're really just interested in the numbers. Also, Cami215 is wrong. Princeton requires 3 SAT IIs in 3 different subject areas but they just have to be different tests..like Math IC and Math IIC count as two separate tests. You just can't take the Math IIC twice and count that as two tests. I applied to Princeton early and my Math IC and Math IIC scores counted as two tests. I also asked an admissions representative during and info session and they said any 3.
