The number above is formed by writing down, in increasing order, the consecutive even integers from 2 to 98, inclusive. What id the 40th digit in the number ?

b.2
c.3
d.4
e.7

Why is the answer d??

What is the range of f(x)= 3x2<--(squared)-5x+3, if f(x) is defined for
-1<x<4 and x is an integer?
a.1<f(x)<31
b.3<f(x)<31
c.11<f(x)<31
d.1<f(x)<11
e.3<f(x)<11

Why is the answer a??

i appreciate ur feedback :)
please help!!

First one is a pattern, notice that starting from 10, every second digit is an even integer. So for every 10 numbers you have a cycle of 6,8,0,2,4 as the 2nd 4th 6th 8th and 10th integer. So if you are looking ofr 40- look at the 10th integer and the cycle will repeat so it is 4.

In the second one- you want the maximum and minimum values of the function. You could probably graph it if you have a calculator, but if you dont sub in the max value of 4 to find the maximum value of 31 and eliminate choices d and e. Then you have to sub in 1= 3x^2-5x+3 and see if it is possible. Since it is possible to find a value when x=1 and it falls in the given interval, it is the minimum value and the answer is f(x) is between 1 and 31.
