I'm going to be honest. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter where you land in terms of housing, you're going to adjust and like where you live. Yeah, a lot of people complaine about Hinton James and first, but you start to love it. All the communities sort of grow on you.

Yeah. My brother was in Hinton James his freshman year and, well, aside from the lack of AC I kind of liked it.

One thing I've heard about Granville (could be a pro or con depending on personality) is that it's a little "elitist". Because you have your own meal plan at Granville, you are basically limited to eating there with your Granville friends... etc. Personally, I have the best of both worlds. I'm living ON campus, right off Franklin Street, close as I can get to all my classes... and I have a bunch of great girls on my floor.

I talked to my friend Adam this morning who lives in Granville, and he's a freshman. He's down to earth, and is not in a fraternity, although he is still considering it. From his point of view, he acknowledges that a lot of kids who live in Granville go Greek. He also said that if you do not like walking very far to class and to your friends' dorms on campus, then Granville may not be for you...because it's a little bit of a walk to campus. That's the price you pay if you want to live ON Franklin. I'll say one thing: my room is much nicer than Granville... I would not want to pay extra for Granville. Adam has also had his iPod stolen from his dorm room... never found out who took it from his drawer. A PRO to living in Granville is that the dining halls are OPEN on the weekends. Lenoir (on campus) is NOT open on the weekends, which I will admit, is a royal pain! Lenoir and Ramshead generally have weird hours.

Cloying: Goodluck! Hope you get your first choice!

cloying - My d is in Craige North and it does look like they filled it with mostly honors, Robertsons and scholarship kids. She and her friends decided to recontract their rooms after much debate about moving up to Kenan community. Since she will most likely move off campus after next year and she likes being close to the Ramshead and a parking garage for her Vespa, she decided to stay put for one more year. She will most likely be volunteering at the UNC Medical Center which is a block away and very convenient as well. It truly is a very nice coed dorm. (Their are guy suites and girl suites, so you don't share a bathroom with the opposite gender.) Also, Craige North is across the street from the Campus Police Station which is pretty much in the middle of South Campus, so I don't think you need the pepper spray...lol!

One thing about Kenan...I believe Kenan dorm itself is females only with limitations on the visitation. The other three dorms in the Kenan community are coed I believe with no restrictions. It's a great location though and dorms are very nice.

I came here to say DO NOT STAY IN GRANVILLE. Trust me, do not, it's terrible.

As a frosh, I highly recommend south campus dorms like Hinton James, E-haus, or Craige. They're old, few rooms have AC, and it's the most packed, but you will meet people and you will have the opportunity to walk through all of campus as you go to classes and back.

I didn't even put HJ down when I applied, but I'm glad I stayed here.

PS - You can check Morrison, but I'm living there next year, and most are going to be sophs.

question: if im a pogue scholar, will i get a directional dorm on south campus? :-) lol

Don't kow, sorry.
