Matt Barkley to stay at USC!

I was happy to hear that Matt Barkley will stay another year to get his degree and lead his team one more year. Great speech today, too.

he’s actually on track to graduate with his bachelors in may, he’s staying another year to get his masters.

i’m so excited he’s coming back though. we will be undefeated next year.

All-American safety, T.J. McDonald, will also stay for his senior year. Matt is from a Trojan family. His father is an alumnus of the university.

Matt remarked at the post announcement press conference, “I just love SC and everything about it!”

Four other players made a commit to SC today. At least two will enroll early and be with the team for spring football practice.

Wow! I hadn’t heard the news yet, but was hoping hoping. Thanks cc Trojans. YAY!

It will be extra fun to watch the upcoming season. But what struck me was Barkley’s constant reference to the Trojan family. My D graduated in 2010, and the friendships she formed there have continued as strong as a family. And the assistance she got from the career office and her department helped her get a great job. She said to me, hey, the “always a Trojan” thing is real. That’s what Matt Barkley was talking about today, and it’s no more true of a football player than it is an entry level person like my D.

Great news!!!

This gives me a reason to go to the game when they come to the Bay Area next year.

BTW - UCLA was rated to have the ugliest uniforms in college football. LOL.

UCLA: The panelists agreed that a team’s uniforms are somewhat limited by their school’s colors—and by that rule, UCLA’s true blue-and-gold combination took some shots. Orlandi said UCLA “doesn’t look intimidating” in its jerseys, which reminded him of the cartoon duck Baby Huey. “The jerseys belong in one of those lingerie leagues,” Coleman said. “Baby blue should not be a primary color in male apparel, ever.”

Football is not the only interest in Matt’s life. He has been on numerous mission trips to other countries, including Nigeria, to assist on construction and educational projects. He is active in his church and also plays the guitar for his congregation’s choir

His father, Les, was a student-athlete on the SC water polo team. Matt’s brother is on the SC track team and a cousin is also a Trojan on the football team.

He is a B+ student in the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. At the recent athletic awards banquet Matt received the USC Football Team’s Most Valuable Player Award.
