Hey, I could always have bought a plane ticket!
Remember the guy at Reed?

Iâd put you up at Casa Fang if you were out here, Consolation.
How I wish that the police in police brutality cases were routinely held accountable when there was video evidence. But they are not. Eric Garnerâs killers werenât even indicted. When John Crawford was shot while shopping at a Walmart, his killers werenât even indicted. The Davis pepper-spray cop wasnât indicted. Cops routinely skate in police brutality cases even with photographic evidence.
I read that this woman DID in fact bring her mattress to graduation. A completely narcissistic act to draw so much attention to herself without any concern for the fact that itâs graduation for all the others also.
I think it was Class Day, not Commencement.
But really, she was in a position where she basically HAD to put a bold face on it and bring it. Otherwise people might read her solicitations for various types of sex and think she wasâŠa tad delusional?
@Consolation, do you think she thinks sheâs not telling the truth?
And, yes, she dragged it to graduation today as well.

iâm the mom of a girl and of a boyâŠiâve read a good amount about this caseâŠthere is very good reason to be dubious of her accountâŠIâm not saying that I 100% agree with the boyâs sideâŠbut I am very hesitant of her side.
That said, i am sure of one thing â this is an incredibly narcissistic and unnecessary element to bring into the graduation of 1200 individuals who have literally nothing to do with this situation. And if her answer is, âI want to draw attention to my situationâ then i think we can all agree that sheâs done that in spades. No need to go further.
From the video, we see that Sulkowicz got big cheers when she walked on stage. Clearly there were many who did not appreciate what she did, but nevertheless she got big cheers from some people. What happened when Nungesser walked? Did he get big cheers? boos? nothing different from other graduates?
Agree with you SouthernHope. Blech,oh well, she chose her road and now it will define her career if she can find one, but Iâm sure Nungesserâs lawyer is rubbing his hands in glee and contemplating whether he can sue her, too.
Yeah, today did nothing for Columbia in that lawsuit. All they did was show a willingness to ignore their own policies yet again.
Emma Sulkewicz will not be the first nor the last to champion a cause at a college graduation. âBlack Lives Matterâ are doing their fair share this year as well. As parents we can argue that these protests take away from the purpose of the day, but the students obviously donât feel that way. Otherwise they would not participate or support it.
From the New York Times website: âCap, Gown and Mattress for Columbia Protesterâ
And as far as her âemployabilityâ I donât think she will have a problem in NYC. Most of us are thinking of corporate america where I agree there may not be much of an appetite for someone so controversial. But remember she is a visual arts major. She already has the endorsement of Jerry Saltz who is the senior art critic and columnist at New York Magazine. He is also a 3 time Pulitzer Prize nominee and included her mattress project in his list of best âart showsâ of 2014. That community will rally around her in New York.
From the above NYT:
"As for what will become of the mattress, which she bought online, she said she would hang onto it.
âIf some sort of museum wants to buy it, then Iâm open to that,â she said, âbut Iâm not going to just throw it away.â"
what if the guy walked across with a sign that said âShe likes an@l sexâ
⊠is that ok? doesnât mention any namesâŠ
From the above article, her quote. What a naive comment.
Columbiaâs official response to the commentary on the lack of a handshake is as follow:
So if a snub was intended he is not willing to publicly acknowledge it. And technically Emma is correct he is supposed to shake everyoneâs hand.
LOL you think? Iâm sure administration is quite content to have her graduate. Maybe sheâll get a job in PR for Sealy, she can carry a mattress for awhile longer.
collapses
"But remember she is a visual arts major. "
Yes, if the job she wants is to have a show accepted at X or Y gallery, this is all to the good.
Despite my lack of confidence that the university wronged her, I think her piece is really good art.
And I have a different definition for artâŠ
