I don't really get the egg crate thing you're supposed to put on your mattress, is it actually comfortable? Also, are we supposed to get that egg crate thing and a mattress pad or is it either/or?

It's either/or. And yes, the egg crate foam is really comfortable - I'll take it over the mattress pad any day.

... is this if you want extra padding above the mattress? as in something extra we buy ourselves (or through that student thing they mailed us)?

Yes. Just get it and try it out; it's cheap as hell and if you don't like it then don't use it. It's not a super-expensive investment of any sort.

And don't buy the crap that they sell through that BS catalog - everything in there is super overpriced. Just get it cheap from Target or IKEA or something.

Thanks a lot!

I've tried both the memory foam pad and regular egg crate foam. There is no competition, the memory foam pad is much more comfortable.

You can get a generic one (look for polyurethane on the packaging) at Target for a fraction of the advertised price you see on television.

I remember during Calso that the unit three beds where like metal springs, so some extra comfort is always nice
