So, how good (or bad, lol) are the mattresses. Do most people use a foam mattress pad? Also, any problems with bed bugs? Thanks!

The mattresses are pretty standard. They’re pretty firm almost to the point of being hard. Many people use those egg crate foam pad things to make their bed a lot more comfortable.

As far as bed bugs go, I didn’t encounter any during my year there. However, I will say that there have been mice on my floor. The worst kind of bug you’ll get is a lady bug when they’re flying all about during the spring. Hope this helps!

Thank you! That is just the kind of info I was looking for. I can’t wait for the phone call from my daughter when she encounters a mouse for the first time! We are in A suburban, coastal area and she has never seen a mouse, except maybe someone’s pet. But we have Palmetto Bugs and lizards to rival the best of them!

They’re twin XL. When it’s hot in the dorms (September, May, and in the winter the heat is often on too high) they get pretty sticky if all you have on top of them is a sheet because they’re covered in blue waterproof plastic instead of fabric (pretty normal for college). Some of them sag in the middle more than others, and if you have a saggier one you don’t want the padding you put on top to be too thick, or that just makes it even worse. Egg crate foam pads are the way to go.

I haven’t seen bedbugs or mice at all. Or bugs of any sort for that matter.
I haven’t used any egg crate foam things and I can sleep perfectly fine. I have a loft bed too

The loft beds are the best, but they’re not fun to fall off of.

Egg crate mattress pads are nice, but if you have the money to spend I would really suggest the mattress pads that have 200 thread counts. Two friends of mine have the temurpedic mattress pads and those beds are to die for. They are so comfy!!!

Those are really expensive though. I really like the mattress pads with feathers in them, not a big fan of the egg crate ones. But either way it is not a big deal, the mattresses aren’t too bad.

As for bed bugs, I haven’t heard of anything about bed bugs this year. There are some silverfish though, but they’re harmless bugs. It’s just gross seeing them around from time to time. It might have just been my floor or tower though because I don’t think I’ve heard about other floors encountering silverfish…
