what is the max number of ap credits you can have going into your freshman year? do they cap off at a certain number? also what placement tests are needed and are there ways to be exempt from them?

there is no limit to the number of credits you can be awarded, I believe. I came in as a freshmen with about 130. yes, you read that correctly.

<a href=“UCI General Catalogue Archives”>http://www.editor.uci.edu/catalogue/intro/intro.11a.pdf

thats the chart that will determine what credit you get according to your ap test/score.

It’s true.

wow flemmyd congrats on your achievement. so did you enter in uci as a sophomore? and what is the credit number to theoretically start off as a sophomore?

flemmyd is such a bad a**

Sophmore? He came in 5 units shy from entering as a Senior.

0-44 units: Freshman
45-89 units: Sophmore
90-134 units: Junior
135-180+ units: Senior

Swag.

Yeah, I was officially a senior during my second quarter of my freshmen year. It was interesting registering for freshmen level classes like math 2J and being the only person enrolled in the class for like 2-3 weeks.

If anyone is wondering HOW I was able to get those credits, here was my trick:
Instead of taking AP classes in high school, I took junior college credits. And they add up FAST.

ie: i took Gen chem which was 10 semester units. that translates to… 15 quarter units. almost double you get for AP chem and plus I got to skip chem 1b and 1c.
Now factor the fact that I did that with calculus (single and multi variable), my foreign language my lower division writing, micro and marco econ, etc.
I took these classes at my JC for my high school graduation, so while all my friends were in poly econ, (which was 1 AP class), I got credit for micro/macro econ + poly sci = 9 semester units = 15ish quarter units.

It also helped that I knew I’d be going to UCI when I was a sophomore (I’m local) so I could plan classes that would count at UCI.

congrats flemmyd! yeah my best friend came into berkeley with senior status (or darn well close to it) right out of high school because of college classes + AP + IB.
