Many schools only want up to three SAT Subject tests, but I'm convinced that they secretly want to see more just to know that prospective students are capable of the rigorous college curriculum. Am I the only one who thinks that? And if not, should I send more than the required?

I think you should only send more if you do really badly on one or more of the first 3. There is no reason to take more than 3 unless a school asks for it...

alright. that sounds...reasonable. but i only ask this question because according to..."the truth behind harvard," or whatever, they say that their applicants with 5 sat II's with above 700 are more likely to be admitted. i cannot be less interested in harvard, but i wonder if this applies to other schools.

colleges say "we only look at the top 3 scores of ur SAT 2s" ........so if you send in 5 with 650, 690,750,800 and 780, who's to say they're not going to "accidentally" look a the 650 sc0re (not one of the highest scores, of course !) ???

Applicants with 5 or more SAT II scores above 700 may be more likely to be admitted, but I would say that it's because of other correlated factors, not the SAT scores themselves. It's probably because someone who takes that many subject tests is a die hard student and will have many other strong parts of his or her application (lots of APs, rigorous course load). So if the college only asks for 3, then send them 3; no need to waste another Saturday morning for those extra ones.

sounds good. thanks guys.

well, how bout this twist:
most of my schools require an SAT2 math test. however, to date, I have taken US History - 800, Spanish w/ Listening - 790, and Literature - 800. However, i KNOW my math SAT2 score will not be that high (taking it in October). So, my highest three SAT scores are the three that are not required.
If my math SAT2 is lower than the other three, will they be forced to look at all 4? the top 3 do not fulfill requirements...so they will be forced to look at the 4th.

Ask the college

In my knowledge, there are only four colleges that required three SAT IIs for the class 2011 - HYPS and one recommended three - Georgetown. You are wellcome to send four or more if they are good. It's betther to send three solid scores than four crappy ones.

Something else to note is that on your score report sent to colleges your 6 most recent SAT I test scores and your 6 most recent SAT II test scores are shown (I got this from collegeboard.com). So let's say you get 7 amazing SAT II scores, well once you get the scores from your 7th test, the scores from your 1st test will be bumped off. So really, unless you're trying to get a bad score off the list, there's not much reason to take a lot of SAT IIs.

There's not too much of a reason to take more than the required amoung of SAT IIs, since colleges only take your 2 or 3 best scores. It wouldn't hurt to have 4 or 5 high scores, but at the same time, it might not help.
