Max # of years someone has spent at a UC after transfering

I was wondering what the record is for the # of years someone has spent at a UC after transfering was, so if you know it or if you were there for more thsn the average # of years please comment and explain how you were able/ had to stay?

Each school has a unit limit, and requires a petition in order to stay longer which usually has to have a good reason approved. Just wanting to take different classes for fun will probably not be seen as a good reason.

Oh really, whay are the unit limits? Does that mean that a transfer can’t double major? Im surprised I haven’t heard of this before.

What school(s) are you really shooting for?

Berkeley or LA, but since I posted this im now only a single major in computer science… not really interested in double majoring but VERRY interested in being mathematically literate. Its actually looking good as far as chances go so far though (I already have one internship done, gave another few lined up, and I have a really strong interest in the classes ill be taking so hopefully that will translate to a high GPA I havent started with classes yet as im still in high school.)

Berkeley and LA will give you the boot, usually ONE semester after the 4th year (Your 2nd as a transfer) and they are VERY strict about it. Remember they have thousands upon thousands of people that are foaming at the mouth to get into their school so they don’t play games.

Here at UCSD: I’m about to start my third year as a transfer and I will still have classes left over. My Muir counselor said I will have to petition but if my grades are good, he will be behind me and he said a recommendation letter from advisers at your undergraduate college is pretty much a golden ticket to getting financial aid/unit exceptions.

I would imagine every UC other than Berkeley or Los Angeles will have similar protocols in place.

^UCLA is not as strict about time as UCB.

You can definitely stay longer at UCLA as long as you don’t go over the unit limit. Staying more than 3 years might be difficult at UCLA though.

Berkeley will kick you out and limit you to summer sessions if you go on for too long.

I love UC Davis cus you get to stay here so as long as you don’t go over 225 units total. And even if you do you can petition for an additional semester. :D
