Maximize Chance of Getting into UC Berkeley aka Cal

Hello everyone,

It's November, and UC application deadline is drawing near. I, as a HS senior, am still trying to finishing up the essays and the little details. Today, I came across multiple posts on CC about switching major at Cal. It seems quite easy, so I thought I should take advantage of it. Apparently, it is easier to get into Cal if I declare my major to be an uncapped, unpopular major like Rhetoric than a capped major like Econ. Under the Cal system, the students who are accepted aren't accepted under their declared major, but under the one of the colleges like college of L&S. My intended major is actually Econ, which is competitive, and unfortunately, I don't have the test scores for it, so I figure I should declare my major as something else?

On a completely different note, I've heard that race plays quite a big role in college application. Sadly, that element plays against me as I am Asian (and an international student graduating from US HS), so should I not declare my race in the college application (even though my name gives it away)?

Are there other tricks that can maximize my chances of getting into Cal? I'm dying to study and live there. It is my 1st choice and my dream school. I will truly appreciate any help or comment. Thank you :)
