Maximum AP credit for U of I?

I saw on the University of Illinois website that they'll give (generous) credit for high scores on AP exams. Hypothetically, a person could get 60+ credits, cutting the time it would take for a bachelor's from four to two years. In practice, what are the limitations on AP credit? I read that for a psychology major, you'd need something like 44 credits, meaning that there would be nothing keeping someone from "cashing in" those AP scores for credit. Would this work in real life?

PS, they require 120 credits/credit hours to graduate
