It depends on the major... I am about to declare my chemistry major in the fall and I have 3 credits from the AP Chem test. So you can get credit toward your major, but it really depends on the major.

I'm 99.9993485973% sure that you do NOT get credit toward your major for any courses you test out of through the NU placement exams.

What about credit for outside of your major? For instance, if I'm not a chem major, but I do well on the chem placement exam and get to skip the intro sequence 100 classes, will I actually get 'credit' for these coureses?

NUbi: chem is the one exception. If you place out of the intro 100 chem sequence, they give you credit on your transcript (to appease med schools, mainly).

and as a side note, GOOD LUCK on the chem placement exam. it's ridiculously hard.

Again, this information is accessed online. Allow me to remind you that the website is www.northwestern.edu Being placed out of a sequence gets you closer to a major but doesn't get you closer to graduation. getting credit means you get credit. It's based on department...i suggest some rudimentary research bc the odds are that you won't get perfectly accurate information.

Yea, that chem placement exam is...
