I know you need at least 120 units to graduate but is there a maximum number of units you're allowed to have?
I'm taking classes every summer and I already had community college units before I entered Berkeley-- so I think I'll have A LOT of units by the time I graduate. As long as I finish up in eight semesters.. there's no maximum amount of units, right?

I would think that based on there being a max of 20.5 units per semester, that there would then be a max of 164 for all four years.

I'm pretty sure unit caps do not apply as long as you graduate within eight semesters.

There's no point in rushing, college is an excellent experience and Berkley is certainly a great school. Instead of trying to rush everything, I reccomend maybe doing an internship part time and going to school if you can handle such a workload. If you're going into finance, although a degree from Berkleys Haas school will stand out in itself, many employers would be more impressed with steady work experience and school over just an early grad......just my opinion. Good luck.

There are two maximums: units passed and semester. Your maximum number of semesters will override everything. If you're given 8 semesters (as all entering freshman are, whether admitted for spring or for fall), you get 8 semesters.

However, if you want to take that 9th semester, you will need to have fewer than 130 units prior to enrollment. 129.5? Awesome. 130 exactly? Not so awesome.

But even then, you just petition with the deans of your college, giving them a good reason (usually supported by a professor in your department) and off you go. Not as easy as that, as they are essentially denying the admission of another candidate in favor of you retaining a spot at the university, but you get the idea. You're not automatically kicked out for exceeding the maximums.

Personally, I have 132 units and I don't even think that's including this semester. I was a spring transfer, so I was guaranteed 4 semesters at Berkeley. Spring 2009, which I intend to attend, will be my 5th semester, and I am WELL over maximum units. So far, there haven't been any blocks on my account, I got a regular Telebears appointment according to super-senior status (Day 2 of Telebears), and everything is fine.

shrug

Still going to make an appointment to speak with the deans at L&S, though.
