Maximum Units for UC? ***(Transferring)

Does anyone know what's the maximum units for Engineering major is to transfer out?

I'm calculated that I have to take over 90+ units to finish. And most of them are "pre-reqs".....I saw the UCSD website, where the maximum is 70 units.......

I know they have TAG...but what about the top 2: LA and Berkeley???

I mean.... for Berkeley...if you miss one....it's an "automatic" rejection. So if they have a limit....how do we get into UCLA and Berkeley???

and FINISH our pre-req if we want to??

It is my understanding that there is no limit to the number of units that you can take at a CCC and still transfer to a UC with Junior status. You need a minimum of 60 units to transfer. You can take a much greater number at your CCC but when you transfer you will only get credit for a maximum of 70 units. I believe this is done to make sure you only have enough units at the UC to be considered a Junior since the UCs generally due not accept Senior transfers.

I am assuming all of the units you have were earned at a CCC. If they include courses taken at a four year school such as a CSU the situation becomes more complicated.

They set the limit so you don’t graduate with just CC units. Graduation requires a minimum of 180 quarter units. The maximum you get to transfer is 70 semester which is 105 quarter units. If they allowed any amount of units to be transferred then people could get away with just graduating with just CC units and the required classes for your major.

No you won’t get rejected.

They set the limit of how much units you can transfer not how many units you can take. Whatever you take over 70 units, all you get is cleared for the class but no actual units that count towards graduation.

So yes you can take 90+ units. Just that 70 of units can be used towards graduation. And no you don’t get auto rejected for going over the limit.

I had 80+ before I transferred and got into Berk and LA. So don’t worry.

okay…this seriously made my day. Thank you @iTransfer and Lemaitre1.

Just one more question if you don’t mind.

Will Berkeley and LA consider “overall GPA” …the non transferable +Transferable units…meaning will nontransferable units be a factor in our admission decision?

since it’s counted toward our overall GPA…

since it’s counted toward our overall GPA…

@churroke: No, admission decisions are supposed to be based only on UC transferable GPA. UCs will be able to see the grades you got from non-transferable courses, but those grades will not be a factor in our admission.

Yes all the grades for the units even over 70 will be counted towards your GPA for admissions. Once you transfer that number means nothing because you start again as zero. So yes it is considered for admissions. All the units even those over 70.

For non-transferable classes, they don’t count (check assist.org). But for classes over 70, yes it counts.
