May 08 Biology E/M

So.....what does everyone remember?

I didn't think it was that bad for the most part. The M was much easier than the E (IMHO)

Questions: The ones with the 5 different organisms?? ***?! Impossible. Most like a primate=T-Rex? (Both Mammals?)

The Plant Questions: The hypothesis was that it would grow the same as it would on an artificial tree? Then that the cuttings were dependent on the trees (because the ones on the artifical grew, but much shorter)?

Beginning Questions: Did anyone get mitochondria twice for liek the first two answers?

Discuss here. . . I'm deciding whether or not to cances

T-rex is most like a primate? (Color vision and grasping hands?)

Hypothesis, the vines would grow the same as it would on the regular tree.
Cuttings were dependant on the tree.

I GOT MITOCHONDRIA TWICE!

I hated that one with the five organisms. I think I put the dinosaur as closest?

And Yes, I got mitochondria twice.

I ended up skipping a few though because I thought I would go back to them, but I didn't have enough time. Some of the questions were worded really...strangely.

In the Mrna diagram, which one had proteins AND .. something else, I forgot the exact question. I put 6, which was the tRNA, because it was directly attached to the proteins (amino acids) but it could have also been mRNA.

I got the evolution one wrong! GR. It was starfish, shark, whale, and T-rex.

I didn't omit any, and I'm really worried.. I'm more likely to get stuff wrong. I didn't know ANYTHING about the eye, and the heart part (E section) confused me as well.

With the rat experiment, did the rats have to be geneticially diverse? (The other options were same diet, fluctuating temperatures.. etc)

T-Rex is last? I don't think I put that....I know starfish was first, but I'm forgetting which one I picked exactly. :/

The order of evolution is from water to land, so T-Rex had to come last. I got that one wrong. Do you remember anything else from the test?

Damn, you're right.

Well, most of the diagrams looked like they were drawn by a fourth grader. The eye? Yeah, I think I messed those questions up.

How many do you need to get right to get a 700 or above? Does anyone know?

From the curves in the official CB SATII prep book, you need ~60 raw score to get 700... and ~77 for 800. Try searching for old threads for more on that....

Lichens = mutualism?
Which pairs had convergent evolution? Was it 1 and 5? (Shark and Whale?)
What would account for the genetic uniformity of cheetahs?
Why do clumped populations... something?
Which organisms secrete Uric Acid? (Shark and Whale?)

Wait a sec... are we allowed to discuss all this??? My proctor tried to nail the fact that YOU CAN'T DISCUSS IT into our heads... but oh well...

Yes, mutualism

That's what I put.

I don't know...was that in E? Because I don't remember that.

I remember this question, but not my answer.

I don't think I put shark and whale for the uric acid, but I can't remember what I put.

And, all of us have already taken it, so it's okay to discuss. I think? Either way...I guess i'll stop because it really doesn't make a difference at this point.

For the lichens i didnt put mutualism..
ya i put that for convergent evolution
uric acid is produced by the bird + trex, ammonia is produced by aquatic animals

Where does most of the photosynthesis occurs? Was it the paslid mesophylls?

Everyone's already taken it, right? :|
I'm just confused whether or not I should cancel my score.

Which of the organisms wasn't an arthropod? (I think that's the question)

Plants store food as starch?

Glycogen is used by vertebrates for energy storage?

In the diagram of the Protein Synthesis, the hydrogen bond was the one pointing to a rung on the DNA right?

1 and 5 had the uric acid ?

what else. . . .

I think it's bird and dinosaur for uric acid...

What was the answer to the question with the diagram showing the improper separation of chromosomes?

oh ya the one with the fused chromosomes? The diagram was so messed up..I eliminated to the ones that had the sister chromatids attached...E/B...cant remember

I put lobster, I really had no idea. Other options were centipede, beetle, and insect.

I don't remember the glycogen question, was that M section?

H-Bond was the rung of DNA.

Are we allowed to discuss the questions here?

what was the graph for the insect with a decomposed tree or something?
what you guys put?
