what is the may 1 deposit paying for?

for most schools i think it is to unsure a place for you at that school....i guess after may 1st is when schools accept waitlisted students

my question is what if i wait until after may1....i think i need to call my universities because each is probably different....but im still waiting for financial aid packages....i didnt think it would take this long....but i dont know if ill make it before may 1....hopefully i dont loss my spot or w/e

Is there some national master list of accpetances that colleges have access to? Provided you're willing to lose the deposit, is it theoretically possible to say "yes" to two schools? Or would they find out and drop you?

Don't think so, I knew someone who accepted at three schools. Cost them the deposits though...

I heard of a few people that did that in my school. However, they had to bare the consequences. There is a good chance that the schools will find out and revoke you or impose a big penalty for accepting offers of admission to more than 1 university. It sucks, but we have to bare with the rules.

So did those kids actually have their admission revoked? How did the other schools find out?
