I'm in the same boat received the $1000 Commonwealth scholarship with the acceptance package and that is it. I have pretty much written off UMass, I can't wait around much longer.

Would you believe that my child hasn't even received an admissions decision yet??? I sent an inquiry and was told that the decision should be made by today or early next week! Their deadline is still May 1.

And the public colleges wonder why students prefer more expensive private schools? We have 'required' our D to give UMass a fair shot, but the way they do business is frightening.

Same here - nothing yet. D has decided to go elsewhere, but we are still curious as to what she would have gotten (if anything) at UMASS. Faxed them the SS card last week as requested, followed up with a phone call, and still nada. Guess they aren't interested in having in-state students attend - LOL! Bad way to conduct business, IMHO.

Was at the open house today and supposedly there was an issue with mailings-paticularly to in-state students. They re-sent everything this week and we should all hopefully know soon.

elkir, you were right.... I got my package yesterday, and the letter inside was dated March 26th!! The didn't really give me any money other than the $1000 Commonwealth College merit money.... it's funny, I got more merit money from UNH, so it would be much cheaper for me to go there as an out of state student than to UMass as an in state student.... hmmmmm, I am not going to knock UMass, because I am sure it is a great school, but I am surprised that they would not want to attact more in state students who are NMF and scored 800/800/760 on their SATs.

Your stats are almost identical to my D's--you would think UMASS would put on a full-court press to get talented kids to stay in state.

Like you, my D can attend Clark or Colgate for less $ than UMass! Did you also get an J/A Adams scholarship for performace on MCAS? That gets you free tuition, but at UMass, that's only about $1700. Political ploy, as fees are many thousands more.

I just shake my head at the mickey-mouse way UMass does things. Yet, they say they want to be as prestigious as Michigan, UNC or UVA! Talk about a long way to go.

MADad, I wasn't eligible for the J/A Adams scholarship because I went to a private school. But my mom teaches at a state college so we are eligible for 50% tuition reduction ( about $450... WHOOPEE!!!)... we knew about the tuition/fee "situation" at UMass. I think a lot of people are very surprised when they find out that their "free" tuition only covers about $1500. I agree with you about thinking that UMass would want the most talented children of their TAXPAYING residents to choose their state university.

It's funny, because most of my friends applied EA and we got everything super early... even got the finaid package over a month ago. It's too bad they didn't send everything on time, they might lose a lot of good kids because of it.

As of today (unless its "in the mail"), we are still waiting. We live 2 1/2 hours from UMASS - in-state and D was accepted in early December. What a shame that because of a poor system, they are losing quality students.....

Well, the elusive FA letter arrived in today's mail. Actually, its laughable - just one small loan and not even any work study offer. Every other school gave her work study! She also has the Adams Scholarship from the MCAS, but we have already sent the deposit to another school two weeks ago that offered her a great merit scholarship. I am very disappointed in how disorganized UMASS has been through this entire process.
