Now that May 1 passed and office of admissions knows about numbers, can someone shed a light on if Tufts will take anybody from the waitlist this year? If yes, about how many?

any answer, DanAdmiss@Tufts? :/

I am not an admissions officer, but…

First, a data point: back in the '90s, when I was applying, I got a “we aren’t taking anyone off the wait list” letter from a university in the third week in May. Yes, computers existed back then; it still took a few weeks for the college to determine that it had too many students.

Finding that you are overenrolled is much easier than figuring out how many you’re taking off the wait list.

You have to wait for checks to clear, mail to arrive, credit cards to go through, and then, when it’s all done, there’s tallying. Then you figure out how many accepted, who accepted, and what holes need to be filled. That simply is not an instantaneous process.

Now, at least with some graduate schools, there’s also ‘summer melt,’ wherein students don’t go, take a year off, or get off the wait list at a different school (which causes a trickle-down effect). College may be similar.

Look at the wait list tread that Dan posted awhile back. It will answer all your questions.

Thank you both ariesathena and momworried. @momworried: which thread are you exactly talking about? And is your son/daughter a student at Tufts right now? Is he/she happy overall?

Yes, my son is a freshman. He had a great year and absolutely loves Tufts.

I’d like to point out that I STILL have not heard back yet, and I applied very, very early. At least you know where you stand.

@momworried: good to hear that your son is very happy Tufts. Many students try to transfer to other colleges nowadays.

@Jmasterson: What do you mean you have not heard back yet?

Has anyone heard anything?
