I notice that the deadline to accept enrollment offers is May 1st for texas A&M and UT Austin. I am planning on appealing and I notice that UT does not consider appeals until after May 1st when they can determine if they have space for more-- by then their strongest candidates would have already accepted/denied the enrollment offer.
I was waitlisted for UT. What happens if I accept the enrollment offer to A&M but UT offers me admission after May 1st?
My understanding is that you will loose your A&M enrollment fee, that’s it. You should accept A&M as your safety net.
My son is in the very same boat. Another issue is that he has a lease for Callaway A&M that must be cancelled by May 1 if we are not to be on the hook for the full lease term.
Guys, My D is also on same list, however most likely she will go to ASU on a full ride. Please take in account chances are quite slim, last year only 5 over 200+ were offered admission.
@PhaseNoise
Where did you find the information for “5 over 200+ were offered admission”. It would be nice to see these people’s qulifications and major.
@punctiliouseye , pls see below, no other info available.
Students Offered Wait List 386
Students Accepting Wait List Position 281
Students Admitted From Wait List 5

I agree that last year’s statistics are very disheartening, but at least the letter we received confirming my son’s being offered the wait list states that, unlike previous years, they expect to be able to add students from the wait list to the freshman class this year.
I got waitlisted at UT, and was admitted just a few days ago. I used the appeals system to send a “letter of continued interest” (asked my regional UT counselor and he said to use the appeals system). Not sure if anyone else has gotten in off the waitlist currently.
Like PhaseNoise said, if you are accepted to UT off the waitlist and decide to attend there instead of A&M all you would lose is your enrollment deposit(if you have already paid it).
Personally I know of 5(there may be more I don’t know of) students from my school who already cleared the waitlist. However it does seem like the main batch of admitted students have already cleared the waitlist and they possibly will only be accepting very few from here on out…
There was also a thread that was started earlier about this year’s waitlist: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-texas-austin/1756834-2019-ut-waitlist-is-moving.html#latest
The $200 UT enrollment deposit is refundable if you decline your offer of admission by May 1.
