Is a 1360 good for UCLA?
I got a 1390 Composite, 720 Reading/Writing, and 670 Math. What do you guys think about this for Universities like Arizona State or Texas A&M? Iâm trying to stay close to home in the southern states, and study Aerospace Engineering. If anyone has any ideas of other places with great physics/engineering programs where I could get into that would be great.
GPA:3.8 (unweighted)
Iâve taken 3 college courses, with 4 more coming this fall to finish my curriculum a semester early. These courses include 2 semesters of English 101/102, 2 semesters of U.S. History, Marine Biology, U.S. Government, and Sociology. It is not convenient for me to do AP courses due to the fact that my high school is online and I live in Chile, where the only test center is 20 hours by driving.
I have lived here for 2 and a half years, as part of an expat program, however I am a U.S. Citizen and Texas Resident. Other than my normal grad req of 200 credits I will have an additional 70 (5 credits is a semester course, so yes 14 extra courses) from participating not only in my online high school and college courses, but also through a local school here (in Spanish of course).
The one year I spent in a Texas high school I participated on a First Robotics Team and we placed 9th regionally. I have played one year of basketball here, however the program no longer exists. I consider the Chilean classes to be a type of EC for me because they are in no way required, I use them solely for social experience as well as to learn Spanish and Chilean Culture.
I have voluntarily spent 3 hours or more nearly every school week for the past two years teaching English as well as SAT study to a Chilean National, who hopes to study in the U.S. someday, and have a total of around 275 community service hours with the peer tutoring and various projects.
I feel like all of this will make a pretty strong application, but I really would like some input from those of you who are familiar with the admissions process. Sorry if my writing isnât the best here, but I had to rush while posting this.
Wow, this is pretty disappointing. After getting perfect R/W score on the PSAT I get a 730 on the real thing? And after getting a 34 on ACT math and 700 on old SAT math I get a 640 on new SAT math? I feel like Ashton Kutcher is about to pop out and tell me I just got punked lol and a 20 on the essay barely feels like any consolation
@JACHON Depends on if you are in-state or applying OOS. If youâre OOS I wouldnât rely on a 1360 unless the rest of you app is very strong. Probably worth it to retake.
Is a 1460 okay? I got a 770 rw and a 690 math. Should I retake if my top school is Vanderbilt?
Iâm confused about essay scores because I got a 5, 6, and 6 on the essay and I have no clue if thatâs good or not. I got a 1410 btw (750 EBRW 660 Math)
@Katola If youâre really determined to go to Vandy, then itâd be in your best interest to retake. Your 770 is certainly good enough, but you may want to pull up your math score to be closer to Vandyâs 75th percentile, thus giving you a better chance at admission. However, one SAT section is rather small in the grand scheme of college apps, so you should consider strengthening the rest of your app and not relying solely on improving your math score. Congrats on the great score.
Dâs scores

Confirms her weaker areas and time to work on these
DDâs score - M680 and EBRW 720 Essay score was 21. Awaiting June score and unsure whether to retake in October as she will be applying to some top 20-ish schools.
I got 1460 and was really hoping to not have to retake it in the fall :(. I am aiming for Ivies. Any advice or consolation? 730 on both math and reading/writing. 7 on all parts of the essay.
@blueeagle Congrats on the great scores!- especially on the essay section. For Ivy League schools you should probably aim for 1500+. As a comparison, your score is about a 2100 on the old SAT, and a 1500 on the new is about a 2200 on the old. The good news is, youâre already scoring high enough, but need to get just a couple more questions right. I would recommend doing practice questions on Khan academy or purchasing Barronâs SAT 1600 book.
OMG, I screwed up! Got 1440 in total, 670 in Reading, 770 in Maths, 6, 5, 6 in the essay. I wish I had done better in CR! Do you guys think I got a chance at MIT with this score? My intended major is bioengineering. Btw, my math score wasnât inflated at all. I had only missed 3 questions and scored 770, same as the old test. I just wish MIT doesnât mind my reading score since I live in a non-English speaking country(if that matters at all). Can anyone offer me some advice? Iâd rather focus on other parts of my application than retake the SAT.
I got 1390. 780 on my writing, andâŠ610 on my math. :(( 7,6,7 on my writing. I went online to a score converter and it said I was like. 2130 on the old SAT??? I honestly donât know if I trust it though.
I got 1530, 780 in Math and 750 in E&W
In March I got 1550, 800 M and 750 E&W
Looks like I have to go with previous test score, any clue what 1550 relates to ACT score ? and if I have to retake again ? Thanks
@Mimic17 thatâs equivalent to a 34 or 35 on the ACT, meaning you donât have to retake
Eh⊠I got 1310 (700 M 610 V) smh with a 17/24 on essay. Ugh I totally ran out of time on the Reading and had to guess like 8 questions, so I ended up with a 29 there. For writing, I donât know whatâs happening to me. Like srsly, sophomore year I got 68/80 on the psat in writing missed 4 only. For the new sat, the writing is just awful for me. Itâs mainly the questions that ask to delete the underlined or where a sentence should be placed. Ugh, anyone got any strategies.
@ZealousScholar. I got a 1520 ( 790 Math , 730 E/R). My essay breakdown was (7/7/7). If I am applying for a good number of reach schools (Yale, Pomona,Caltech), should I retake or focus on something else with regards to my application?
One thing that helped my reading pace was timing myself on homework assignments! I would be reading some piece of literature and tell myself that I would finish 1 or 2 pages in 2 mins etc. This helps a lot, because then the actual reading part is at the back of your mind,so you can analyze better! For writing, I honed my english skills by the ACT english section. @YoohooAddict
Pleasantly surprised that I got a 1580(800 M and 780 R/W) and 19/24 on the essay. Only took it for National Merit reasons but nonetheless very happy with my performance.
