May 3rd Math Question...

A few of my friends and myself were disagreeing with this one today. The question was...: the one that had a graph from 2001 to I think 2004. It then asked something like how many times it had increased from 2001 to 2003. In 2001 it was 150 but in 2003 it was 450. Myself and others said the answer was 3 (times) and the other two said the answer was 2 (times).

Our logic was 450/150=3 so 3 times. They claimed that you already started with 150 so you added 150 another two times to go to 450, therefore they came to the answer of 2.

What was the answer so I can explain this tommorow? Thanks.

I got three times...

3 here also. Hopefully it's right.

Do you remember the exact question?

"They claimed that you already started with 150 so you added 150 another two times to go to 450, therefore they came to the answer of 2."

muhahahahahaha........this so funny :) :)

are you sure the question had the word increase in it? or was it just how many times greater?

I also think it is three times because the question asks how many times it increased from 2001 not after 2001. Also, I think that question was one of the first 5 or 6 questions, which usually are straightforward and do not have any tricks.

it was 3 times greater...

so what was it?

it was three times greater. If they asked how many times greater was the INCREASE in between 01 and 04, you would do (450-150)/(150), but they didn't ask that. It's 3x
