So I'm about to go into my sophomore year of college, but I don't think I'll be able to go back to the 4 year universityI attended my first year. I was really lazy and it screwed me. My financial aid was suspended and I don't think my family can pay out of pocket for the semester. The last thing I want to do is drop out of higher education, so I'm most likely going to end up going to my community college. How long should I attend this community college? 1 semester? Or my whole sophomore year? My GPA is about 2.0 so if I get A's I should be able to improve it, but I don't know the specifics (like how much it would increase etc.) Would the advisor at my community college be able to tell me this? Also, I know I have to withdraw from my 4 year university if Im not attending it otherwise it would kill my GPA. Thanks in advance!

There is no one answer to this. It depends on where you want you want to transfer to (will they accept you?), financial considerations, and personal considerations. Whether a four-year school will accept you after one “good” semester is going to vary from school to school. To figure out your GPA, there are many online calculators you can Google, or you can use all that math you learned in high school!

You either stay at community college and stop at an Associates Degree or transfer to a four year afterwards.

Try two semesters of A grades.

Since your first year in college was not good, you want to go to the cc and complete the entire associates degree before you try to transfer. This will establish a long-term record of success, and show that you can accomplish what you set out to do, and these things can help you transfer.

One term at a cc won’t be enough, that’s for sure.
