May I include this in an application?

Hi all,

I signed up to be part of the school physics team, and made it. We didnt meet a lot or anything, we prepared on our own for 1.5 to 2 weeks, and everybody was aiming for the Physics Olympiad. I couldnt make it to the physics olympiad that day although I prepared a lot for it. May I put "Physics Team" in my extra curricular information?

P.S. : It wasnt anything formal to enter the team (no tests), just sign up, and the teachers review all applicants. If he/she doesnt think a person is fit for the olympiad, he will most likely not be allowed to represent the school.

Sure, you may put it on your application.

Keep in my mind that ECs that resonate with admissions committees are those in which you have passion, and in which to accomplish something good (or great). A laundry list of ECs, that merely show membership don’t help your application.
