May I use AP credit as transfer credit?

I am transferring to another school next fall. Although I am not 100% certain on which school it will be, I know that it will be a private school. I thought I was fine; however, I just caught something online. Some of the schools that I am applying for (Wash U, Rice, Wake Forest) only require a certain amount of credits (all less than 14) to transfer. I am a freshman, and I currently only have 14 credit hours (after I complete the semester, of course). But some of the schools I was considering applying to (Vandy, Emory, Notre Dame) require 15 or more credit hours. Here's my question...

Are they referring to credit hours that I will have throughout the whole year, or the credit hours that I complete in the fall alone? I mean, they'll see on my application that I am taking 19 credit hours next semester (spring 2012). Does that mean that I am at 33 credit hours, or are they still considering me to be 14? I don't understand. If so, this just wiped out a lot of my plans. Also, like my question is titled, may I use AP credit I received in high school to fulfill the credit hours? Could I use the four I earned on the AP Spanish exam to make 14 turn into 18, and add the five from my AP literature to make it 23? I am really confused. Thanks so much in advanced!

For me at least and all the colleges i’m transferring to, they count AP scores (so long as they accept that score and test in their AP credit policy) as part of your total credit hours. Just be sure to have that printed on your transcript by request of your school.

If your schools require 15 credit hours or more, and you have 14 hours fall semester, and plan to take 19 hours spring semester, you will be seen as having 33 credit hours IF you are applying as a fall transfer applicant.

I’m not sure if all colleges are like this, but i’m pretty sure they are, if you have doubts just call the admissions office!
