May SAT 2011: CR Section

No I don’t; I remember that I was looking at a couple of words and then I realized obstreperous had ‘obstr-’ in it which could be like obstruct so I reasoned it had something to do with defiance.

For the second question about jazz, I chose something along the lines of “Jazz is a highly personal and creative effort”, but what was the exact wording of the answer choice having to do with distinctiveness? I remember thinking it was worded rather strangely, so I went with the one that seemed more clear.

Also, just to add to a consensus, I’m pretty sure “exuberant celebration” was the right answer. I chose “cheerful perplexity” because I thought the spinning and flashing meant that she was overwhelmed by the surrounding event and not entirely aware of its significance. But I was really hesitant about it, because it’s an unlikely combination of words that would only apply in very specific situations, and I don’t think this would be one of them.

Thanks
btw, the meditation one was something like “she wrote a book called “love and lust” but ----- because she discussed both but didn’t take a position”
Not exactly that but similar.

Oh and I said exuberant celebration. I’m pretty confident. She seemed excited to me, and it said it was Easter, so it makes sense. I think the high school drop out thing was just to mess people up.

for the black singer one what u guys chose for the first one? I thought it was nostalgia… and seems like it’s wrong :(

definitely “general agreement” for the cave painting - spent a lot of time with that one

does anyone remember a vocab question with the word “quixotic” in the question? i havent seen anyone talking about it im assuming it was experimental

What was the question that had ‘empathy’ as a choice/answer was it on sentence completion or on the cave paintings??

@genericana 2nd jazz question i put that they have distinctive voices
because thats what it explicitly said in the passage

So any definite decisions on any of the following?

Jazz - Value of Jazz is difficult to assess vs. Learning Jazz is a strenous/demanding activity
Black Concert - The dancing high schooler was exuberant vs. perplexed vs. aggressive
Cave Paintings - Frustrated vs. Delighted vs. Sympathetic
Cave Paintings - Mild Skepticism vs. General Agreement vs. Cautious Acceptance

I’m assuming Exuberant and General Agreement is what we’re going with for those?

Genemerica - I forget how it was worded, but I went with distinctive since the passage ended with saying something along the lines of “each person must make a unique connection to their instrument.”

Newton - I originally thought it was under cave paintings but now that you mention it it might have been a sentence completion…Hmm…

Newton: It was sentence completion, something about a documentary filmmaker starting to explore her subjects’ emotions. Empathy was the right answer.

@ Genericana thank you I got it right!!

@Caperi

Omg thank you!!! Do you by any chance remember other answer choices besides synthesize / divergent ??

@Caperi, I think the jazz one was strenuous/demanding activity. The black concert I am pretty confident it’s exuberant celebration instead of perplexed…For cave paintings I think the answer was sympathetic. The mild skepticism vs. general agreement who knows, I put general agreement but it could go either way.

@sweetpuri - No, sorry. I think I felt pretty good about that one and only read it over once after choosing synthesize/divergent.

did no one get that the jazz one was that creativity preceded formal training or something?
because the first half of the passage was all about how conventional artists train in rigorous formal intonations and stuff but for jazz it was more all about finding your soul

@Shathdra - Why do you think it was a demanding activity? The passage seemed to mainly say that going to a conservatory wasn’t necessary (or should be done later?) and that a Jazz player needed to make a personal connection to his instrument (though the middle of the passage is kind of blurry to me). I forget what I answer I put for that though.

@■■■■ - That answer would make sense, but I don’t remember it being an option.

Jazz: It is “learning jazz i hard”

Black concert (lol): I put contentment…but I am guessing that is not right. Exuberant was only other one that I though could work, so I think that it is that.

Cave paintings: empathetic and general agreement

tlstoqur - That’s the “investigating a crime scene” answer on the consolidated list. I’m fairly sure that it’s right. The passage even had the word “scientists used clues…etc”
