May SAT 2011: CR Section

<p>can we agree on the futility/effort thing??? and i really think we need to think of the rest of the cave questions its been bugging me all day :(</p>

<p>Which one was the experimental section?</p>

<p>In march I omitted 2 and got 13 wrong and got a 620 and didnt someone say that 10 wrong is like a 650?</p>

  • Purpose: A personal account of studying whales(Idon’t really remember the options, but it was def NOT how the author became interested in whales)
  • Using analogies and metaphors in writing
  • Bursts and smokes meant scientists put in much effort already( there is still discussion on futility vs. effort, but “effort” is most likely the answer)
  • Mentioned all EXCEPT WHY the author switched to whale study from owl… study (cuz the author said he first studyed blah blah, which required experimentations, and then switched to whales, without explaning why exactly he swithched)
  • reference to another animal: pace of activity
  • sonnet: Appreciation of some obvious limitations
  • some dialogue ending with” for god’s sake the whales are playing”: Offer a likely train of thought
  • whale’s play might not be perceived as what it is at first sight…</p>

  • the general idea question: The expansion of nighttime or something like that( I thought this one was pretty easy but I cannot recall the exact wording for the correct answer, could anyone help me with this one?)

<p>Cave Paintings Passage (10)

  • Credibility
  • Aesthetic power( this one is quite debatable. I put diversity of content and I am trying to recall some more concrete evidence)
  • Beauty is eternal: reverent
  • Playfully careless
  • Sympathetic( there’s still debate about this one but the correct answer is most likely sympathetic)
  • General agreement( is this the final consensus? I put cautious acceptance… Could anyone address this one plz?)
  • Evocative and moving( therewas another option like” accessible and soothing”, which wasn’t correct cuz there weren’t anything about accessibility or “soothing”, which means comforting)
  • Gifted artists of the Paleolithic period ( this is most likely author 1’s point and the correct answer, but further debate is needed)
    -natural historian( other options were: early “attempts by accomplished artists”, which is most likely wrong, and data for art historians)</p>

<p>well we have 9 cave answers already
the others were probably easy ones and probably that’s why nobody really remembers it</p>

<p>There was a vocab question about jewelry for religion being “decorative vs devotional”</p>

<p>im almost positive the jazz one is not demanding but rather that personal training precedes formal training
i also NEED someone to rephrase the questions for the last two cave questions
and i also put diversity of content.</p>

<p>Can we discuss unrelenting force and indefinable part of landscape??? I picked the latter; it seemed more specific to the lines indicated.</p>

<p>@vivizz i think the general idea question for the time/space was a “comparison” of some sort between space and time</p>

<p>for the relentless question im sure its right - its been pretty much settled a long time ago… the girl was being “pushed” by the force of the crowd and there was some crap about trees in that paragraph.</p>

<p>aesthetic power is also pretty much decided because the author of p1 was really adamant about the power of the paintings with all the reverent eternal beauty thing but i honestly dont think diversity was a big deal in either passage</p>

<p>evocative and moving is 10000% correct- again, think on the whole reverent beauty stuff - p1 was really big on praising how wonderful the paintings were.</p>

<p>general agreement was pretty good - you missed out on some parts of the discussion and most people put that in. - and collegeboard rarely puts things like “cautious” cuz you dont really know to what degree cautious means…</p>

<p>If p1 was so reverent would he be not mildly skeptical of most of the artwork done by teenagers?</p>
